Read This Blog About 13 Colonies

This map was made to represent the thirteen colonies. It shows not only when the colonies were founded but also the main crops and trade in that region. The regions that are shaded are the general farming which encompasses most of the colonies and is shaded in orange. Another large crop is tobacco which is shaded in purple. And finally another large crop in the colonies is rice and indigo which is in green. There are many labels on the map to indicate many key trades in the colonies ranging from ship supplies to whaling to rum! We also wrote an overview paragraph about things we indentified in the map.

My video is number 5 Ways to End Modern Day Slavery: How to Help
Matt,Ciara,Natalie,Travis. The other videos also relate to slavery going on today.

This PSA was basically a call for help from people in slavery. You may not know but slavery is happening to this day in larger numbers then it did before. The video talks about the staggering size of how many people are involved in slavery. But the video mostly talks about how we as a nation and community need to band together and put an end to slavery. If one person knows about it in a town they can start fundraisers and clubs to help earn money and spread the word about slavery. There are many organizations that are trying to prevent and find out who is involved in slavery. Donate or join their cause so they can solve who is involved in slavery. Also they can bring it up to their city counsel, mayor, and everyone that can help. Hopefully we can make everyone join in. People that have lots of power may say they are working on stopping slavery but not much is happening. We need to put our foot down on slavery once and for all.

The reader sounded very interested in the topic               The writer of this blog sometimes did not
and made me want to read more on the topic.                  explain information fully and got me confused.

This person also really grabbed me with her starting      The writers resource was from another blog
paragraph and cited the story really well and related      which may mean it is biased and you
the topic to many things she/he has seen or done.           should not used bias information.

Unknown

                                                #1: Name Unknown

This part of the story is about a man that has been forced onto a slave ship with his whole family because someone falsely accused him of witchcraft. They said the man may have been a slave trader and got in a fight with the chief of Saltpan who made up the lie that him and his family used witchcraft. When the man got on the ship he was extremely depressed. The man would not eat anything. Because of his depression he cut his own throat luckily not killing himself but pretty close. The next night on the ship the man tried killing himself again by cutting his neck with his own fingernails. Again he did not kill himself but he still would not eat food. In about ten days the unknown man died of lack of food.  Some people thought this man was crazy others thought he made the right choice and would rather die then become a slave.

There is a lot of evidence of turmoil and resistance in this passage. To show how much this man doesn’t want to become a slave he tries killing himself and soon succeeds. This was a terrible situation that proves slaves didn’t just sit there and not do anything. They stood up for what they believe in.  You see turmoil in this story when they man is trying to commit suicide and is not eating proving how bad slavery would be.

I thought that the slaves on these ships were just sitting there not doing anything and not standing up for themselves. But here that is obviously not true. I also can't believe you can become a slave after someone gets you in trouble for something that is not true. But I was also shocked that the crew cared so much about this individual. I thought if a slave tried committing suicide they would just throw his body out of the ship but they actually tried preventing it and tried to help him.
